Basic Info
Name:Aang
Bio

Basics
Character Name: Aang
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Gender: Male
Age: 12 (chronologically 112)
Sexuality: Straight
Appearance
The first thing one notices when looking at Aang are his blue tattoos. These arrow-shaped tattoos run over both his legs and arms and most noticeable his head. Being a monk from the Southern Air Temple, his shaved head stands as a symbol for his status as a monk. The tattoos show that he’s an Airbending Master. His eyes are of a hazel colour but is also shown as blue grayish.

Aang wears short orange and yellow monk robes that leave his right arm and chest-area completely exposed with a red sash around his waist and brown pants that are tucked into knee-length boots.
Personality
Aang has a very carefree and playful personality. Like any kid he’s adventurous, naive, fun-loving, energetic and creative. He carries a great respect for life and freedom, taught to him by the Air Nomads and like the other monks he’s a vegetarian. He gets along great with animals and he loves playing with them.

What sets him apart from being just another regular kid is the heavy responsibility he carries as the Avatar. Being the Avatar means he can’t lead a normal kid’s carefree life and this makes Aang feel burdened and guilty, being quite a reluctant hero. Although throughout his journey he has come to accept his destiny as the Avatar and he’s prepared to face it.

Aang cares deeply for the people around him to a fault, especially after he lost everyone he knew in the hundred years he spend in the iceberg. Harm any of his friends and he can be quite hostile.
Abilities
As the Avatar Aang can master all types of bending and he has learned all the four elements.

Airbending – Aang’s main style of combat. The mystical art of aerokinesis combined with the martial arts Ba Gua style. It all focuses on circular and evasive movements, like the air.
Waterbending – Aang is quite skilled at Waterbending, the art of hydrokinesis with the martial arts style of Tai Chi. This style uses flowing and fluid movements to turn an opponent’s force against them.
Earthbending – Earthbending being the opposite of Airbending, Aang had quite some trouble mastering it since it was so conflicting with his personality. He eventually pulled it off and is now able to control the earth. Earthbending goes with the Hung Gar martial arts style. It’s rooted stances and powerful blows represent the solid earth.
Firebending – Is the pyrokinetic ability to create and control fire and uses the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu style with strong arm and leg movements.

Aang used to be able to receive a great boost of power in the Avatar State. In this state the Avatar draws power from his previous lives, making him a very, very powerful foe indeed. But Aang no longer possesses the Avatar state, when he was mortally wounded by Azula his seventh chakra was locked and his connection to all the cosmic energy in the universe was cut.

Aside from bending the Avatar is also the bridge between the mortal world and the spirit world. With the help of a gateway or deep meditation Aang can separate his spirit from his body and travel through the astral plane.

Of course, all of these things will be severely reduced in Manhattan. His firebending will be nothing more than a puff of smoke, earthbending will be reduced to moving a pebble and waterbending nothing but a splash. The only thing he’ll have at least some mastery over is his airbending though it isn’t as strong as it used to be and takes quite some effort to bring forth. His spiritual powers will manifest as the simple ability to see ghosts and the like.
Weaknesses
Aang’s still just a kid, Avatar or not. He’s a typical naive adventure-loving 12-year-old who likes goofing off. He’s also rather reluctant to fight and avoids doing so if possible, he’d rather make friends or try to negotiate. This counts both for humans and animals alike. He’d really just rather be a normal kid than the Avatar who has to bring peace to all the four Nations. He has learned to accept the fact he’s the Avatar but because he is, he also feels responsible for things happening around him even if they are beyond his control, he’d still feel guilty and beat himself up over it.
Manhattanite or outsider?

History
Aang was born and raised at the Southern Air Temple as the next Avatar, easily mastering the Airbending technique. His teacher and caretaker was a monk named Gyatso. He was the person most closest to Aang and who understood Aang’s feelings the most. When Aang was 12 the monks sensed a war would be upon the lands soon and they would need the Avatar. Usually a child who is the Avatar got told they are the Avatar at the age of sixteen but because of this danger they felt forced to tell him sooner.

The news changed Aang’s life forever and the monks started pressing him to train more. Gyatso would have none of it, he was of the opinion Aang was still just a child and therefore should have a relatively normal childhood. The monks disagreed and came to the conclusion they would separate Gyatso from Aang and send Aang away to the Eastern Air Temple. Aang overheard this discussion, feeling confused and frightened, he decided to run away.

Something went terribly wrong in his escape. When he was nearing the South Pole a storm struck and he fell into the ocean with his flying bison Appa. Feeling the danger, Aang went into the Avatar State and created an air bubble that froze over and turned into an iceberg. Leaving both Aang and Appa in a state of suspended animation.

A hundred years later two siblings from the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka, found him and freed him from the iceberg. In the time Aang was inside the iceberg what the monks had predicted had come true, the Fire Nation had started taking over the world, leaving nothing but fire and destruction in it’s wake.

As the Avatar, Aang sets out on a journey with his friends to put a stop to the war and master all elements before a comet would fall in the summer, when the power of the Firebenders would be stronger than ever. During his travels he managed to master Waterbending and Earthbending. The Earthbending master Toph having come along on their journey. They found out a way to crush the Fire Nation and wanted to present this crucial piece of information to the Earth King in Ba Sing Se but on their way Aang’s flying bison Appa got stolen.

Things weren’t what they seemed in Ba Sing Se and the city was under a conspiracy. Aang managed to reveal this conspiracy to the Earth King and get his flying bison back but things still went downhill in Ba Sing Se.

After a confrontation with the Fire Nation’s prince and princess, Zuko and Azula, Aang got mortally wounded and they were forced to flee from Ba Sing Se after which it got taken over by the Fire Nation.

They managed to get their hands on a Fire Nation ship and make it to the Fire Nation on time for the Solar Eclipse, where they started an invasion with allies from all over the world. The invasion failed however, as Firelord Ozai already knew they were coming and was prepared. Aang was yet again forced to flee with all the younger children in their invasion army. Now that their invasion plan had failed they switched back to the old plan where Aang would master all four elements and then confront the Firelord.

They hid out at the Western Air Temple where they stumbled upon Zuko, who had turned ‘good’ and was willing to be Aang’s firebending teacher. After a bit of apprehension he was accepted into the group only to find out he had lost his firebending because he changed sides and lost his drive. He and Aang set out to the Sun Warrior’s Temple where they both learned firebending from a different source.

Ever since then Aang had been practicing his firebending and it was just after Zuko and Sokka returned from a trip to prison where they rescued some allies when Aang suddenly wakes up in Manhattan.
